CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team defeated Louisiana College 8-0 on Thursday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.
The Choctaws' (1-7, 1-3 GSC) offense had a big day as they doubled up their goal total on the season as six different players scored. Junior
Kendall Carballo (San Jose, Costa Rica) recorded two goals with three asissts, senior
Jorge Delgado (Juarez, Mexico) posted two goals, while
Ewahia Amhanesi (Mesquite, Texas) put in one goal with two helpers.
MC got on the board early as Carballo passed it off to junior Conor Corboy (Aptos, Calif.) who hit the back of the net in the sixth minute for his third goal of the season. Sophomore Bastian Busch (Bamberg, Germany) recorded an unassisted goal in the 27th minute for his first tally of the season. Soon after in the 31st minute senior Daniel Lang (Jackson, Miss.) served the ball to Carballo who put in his third goal of the season. Delgado recorded a goal in the 41st minute off assists from sophomore Morgan Roberson (Brandon, Miss.) and Carballo to go into the half 4-0.MC put up four goals in the second half, the first coming from Amhanesi for his first goal of the season in the 54th minute. Amhanesi then had assists on the next two goals by Carballo in the 56th minute and Delgado in the 62nd minute. Junior Victor Marinho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) posted his first goal of the season in the 87th minute of play off a helper by Carballo bringing the final score to 8-0.The Choctaws outshot the Wildcats 32-3, putting up 18 shots in the first half and 14 in the second half.MC sophomore Humberto Pelaez (Panama City, Panama) made 2 saves and recorded his first shutout of the season. Wildcats goalie Nathan Gautreaux made nine saves.Choctaws are tentatively scheduled to play LSU - Alexandria on Monday 3:30 p.m.
