LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- In a game that saw 45 called fouls, including 29 in the second half, the Mississippi College men's basketball team fell to the University of West Alabama, 74-58, on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.
The Choctaws (7-8, 5-8 GSC) grabbed a 3-2 lead in the opening minutes when junior
Johnny Rucker hit a three-pointer, extending MC's streak of games with three-pointers made to 449 games. Following that basket, the Tigers (14-7, 9-4 GSC) grabbed the lead back and never gave it up as they stayed at the top of the Gulf South Conference with the victory.
Junior
Tristan Moore led MC with a season-high 19 points, going 7-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Rucker was also in double-figures with 13 points, while junior
Tory Rice had his ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Choctaws shot 58% (14-of-24) from the field in the second half, bouncing back from a first half that saw them score just 19 points and go just 5-of-21 from the floor.
The Tigers, who improved to 8-0 at home this season, were led by Charles Eaton with 18 points, while Justin Wright had 16 points, all of which came in the second half. Deontaye Ewing (13 points) and Jarrell Byrd (10 points) were also in double-figures for UWA.
The Choctaws will return home for their next game on Thursday night when they host Christian Brothers at 8:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
