Tristan Moore's Late Buckets Gives Choctaws 73-72 Win Over Lee

CLINTON, Miss. --- Tristan Moore's driving layup with :04.5 seconds remaining gave the Mississippi College men's basketball team a 73-72 victory on Monday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws (8-6, 4-6 GSC) trailed 72-68 with 1:33 remaining when Jervon Johnson hit his seventh three-pointer of the night for the Flames (8-5, 5-5 GSC). Johnson finished the game with 21 points, going 7-of-9 from behind the arc, while Lee was 12-of-25 (48%) from long range in the game.

On MC's next possession, Moore nailed one of his three 3-pointers to cut the lead to one with just 1:22 remaining. The Choctaws were forced to foul, and they put Stedmon Ford at the line, who had gone 47-of-52 (91%) from the charity stripe on the season. Ford missed the front end of a one-and-one, but the Choctaws turned the ball over on their end.

With :13 seconds remaining, the Choctaws were forced to foul Ford again, who went to the line and missed for a second straight time. Senior Emmanuel Ezejiofo came down with the rebound and passed ahead to Moore for the game-winning shot.

The Flames had an opportunity in the final seconds, but a half-court shot by Cory Billingsley came up short and the put-back attempt came after the buzzer, giving the Choctaws their fifth win in their last six games.

The Choctaws shot 46% from the field and went 5-of-12 (42%) from the three-point line, marking the 446th straight game MC has made a long ball. MC was also 16-of-22 from the free throw line (73%), led by junior Giancarlo Santiago, who went 4-of-4 from the line.

Five Choctaws scored in double-figures, led by junior Tory Rice with 12 points and 10 rebounds, tallying his seventh double-double of the year. Moore had a team-high 13 points, while freshman Stacey Mack scored 12 points in his first career start. The Choctaws were forced to play without senior Rayner Fredrick, who missed the game with an injury.

Junior Johnny Rucker was also in double-figures with 12 points, while Santiago had 10.

The Flames were led by Johnson's 21 points, followed closely by Billingsley with 20. Tyquan Roberts was also in double-figures with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they re-kindle their rivalry with Delta State in the "Golden Dome" at 4:00 p.m.
