CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened up the 2014 FCA & Zaxby's Tip-Off Classic with a 91-56 victory over Lane College on Friday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (3-0) outrebounded the Dragons (0-2) by a 62-39 margin and had 54 points in the paint. Senior
AnnMarie Harris tallied her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end. MC would lead from start to finish with their largest lead coming with the final score.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led all scorers with 25 points, going 11-of-18 from the field and 3-of-6 from the 3-point line. Junior
Ashley Minor was also in double-figures with 15 points as she went 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Every Lady Choctaw that saw action tonight scored, and senior
Shuntequa Lofton came off the bench to score eight points for the second straight game.
The MC defense was equally as effective as the offense, holding Lane to just 24% (16-of-66) shooting from the floor and six blocked shots, led by sophomore
Zaneta Kubicka with three. Lane was able to keep the game in reach in the second half by going 24-of-37 from the free throw line.
Chloe Roberts led Lane with 18 points, going 10-of-12 from the free throw line, while Seqoya Cox had 12 points.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they face Selma at 4:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The first game of the day will be between Lindenwood and Lane at 2:00 p.m.
