CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team had 13 different players score in an 80-57 victory over Selma University on Tuesday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (2-0) held an undermanned Lady Bulldog (0-3) team to just 34% (21-of-62) shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers, scoring 22 points off the giveaways. MC dominated the paint with 50 points, led by senior
AnnMarie Harris with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore
Zaneta Kubicka helped the Lady Choctaws to a 63-35 edge on the boards with 16 rebounds herself. Harris and junior
Deizarae McCoy each had nine rebounds and the Lady Choctaws tallied eight blocked shots with Kubcika leading the way with three swats.
Junior
Kristen Sampson led the MC scoring attack with 12 points, while junior
Ashley Minor had 10 points and a team-high six assists. As a team, the Lady Choctaws had 23 assists on 32 field goals. Senior
Shuntequa Lofton came off the bench to go 4-of-4 from the field to score eight points.
The game was tied 14-12 with 11:42 left in the first half, but the Lady Choctaws went on 16-5 run to grab their first double-digit lead of the night. The Lady Bulldogs were able to close the gap at halftime to 37-28, but MC was able to push the advantage out to a game-high 25 points at 71-46 with just over five minutes left in the game.
Caitland Henry led all scorers with 16 points for Selma, while Jasmine Frazier had 14. Henry also led the team with eight rebounds.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action this weekend in the FCA & Zaxby's Tip-Off Classic at A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC will face Lane (Tenn.) on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. before playing Lindenwood at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
