CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team will play their second of six straight home games to open the 2014-15 season when they host Selma University at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws (1-0) opened the season with a 65-50 victory over Spring Hill last Friday, outscoring the Badgers 17-2 over the final five minutes of the game. Senior
AnnMarie Harris tallied a double-double in her first game as a Lady Choctaw, posting 12 points and 14 rebounds. Senior
Jaianah Matthew came off the bench to score 13 points, while junior
Ashley Minor also had 13 points in her MC debut.
The MC defense was stout throughout the contest, but especially in the final five minutes when they allowed just two points en route to the run-away win. The Lady Choctaws forced 20 turnovers with 11 steals, led by junior
Kristen Sampson with three. Sophomore
Zaneta Kubicka also blocked two shots in the contest.
The Lady Bulldogs will play their first of three games in the A.E. Wood Coliseum this week as they are returning for the FCA & Zaxby's Tip-Off Classic this weekend. Selma opened the season with an 82-54 loss at the University of Mobile. Shameka Hayes led the team with 22 points, while Erica Stanley had a team-high 10 rebounds.
This will be the 8th meeting all-time between the teams with MC winning the previous seven. They have not played since the 1995-96 season when the Lady Choctaws pouded Selma, 84-22.
