Clinton, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team recorded their fourth straight shutout over Talladega College, 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
The Choctaws (10-5, 5-4 GSC) celebrated senior day prior to the match and honored six players stepping on the field for their last regular season game. They recognized
Fredy Banuelos,
Anthony Chambers,
Francisco DeAnda,
Pedro Hernandez,
Stephen Roberson, and
Brian Vasquez.
The Choctaws got the scoring going early as senior
Francisco DeAnda, found the back of the net off a pass from senior
Brian Vasquez. Thirty seconds later, the scoring duo was back at the goal as DeAnda passed it off to Vasquez who tallied his sixth goal of the season. A minute later, sophomore
George Fradenburg passed it by the goalie for his fourth goal of the season from an assist by
Stephen Roberson. In the 15th minute of play Vasquez found Fradenburg at the edge of the goal who played it across the net to DeAnda to tally his sixth goal of the season. In the 18th minute of play DeAnda converted a hat track off an assist by Fradenburg.
During the 24th minute of play
Oliver Fahling found the back from Vasquez's third assist of the game. This tallies Vasquez's 15th assist on the season which is the most in a single season in MC history.
To end the scoring in the first half, Roberson passed it off to
Taylor Stokes to record his first goal of the season. The Choctaws entered the half with the lead 7-0.
The Tornadoes (3-9) kept the Choctaws to just one goal in the second half.
Anthony Chambers recorded his first goal of the season off a header received by a corner kick from DeAnda. There were no more scores for the remainder of the match, giving the Choctaws the win over Talladega 8-0.
The Choctaws tallied the most goals in a single match since their victory over Rust 15-0 in 2009.
The Choctaws will be back in action for the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Regional. Next week, the tournament location, date and times will be determined.
