Lady Choctaws Earn 1-1 Draw at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team looked poised to earn their third victory of the week, but Valdosta State's goal in the 81st minute tied the match, and the two teams would have to settle for a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at the VSU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (7-3-1, 2-2-1 GSC) and the Blazers (4-4-1, 4-1-1 GSC) would play a scoreless first half, but senior Kaitlyn Kiss wasted no time putting MC on the board in the second half as she scored her third goal of the season and third in the last two matches. Kiss' goal in the 49th minute came off a corner kick from junior Meghan Dodge, who tallied her first assist of the season.

MC picked up victories earlier this week over Millsaps (5-1) and West Georgia (6-3) and looked like they were headed for their eighth win of the year, but Zahimara Fantauzzi had other plans as she converted a header off a corner kick from Erin Hill to equalize the match. It was Fantauzzi's second goal of the season.

The Lady Choctaws were able to get two shots off in the overtime period, while the Blazers had one, but neither team could convert as the match ended in a draw. Junior goalkeeper Robin Cooper made three saves for the Lady Choctaws, while Olivia Mills had five saves for the Blazers.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Union University at 1:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
