Volleyball Travels for Weekend Road Matches Against Lee and Shorter

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team will hit the road for three straight away matches when they face Lee on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Shorter on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. They will also be on the road at Christian Brothers next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

The Lady Choctaws (5-18, 0-13 GSC) have struggled in their first season in the Gulf South Conference, but have continued to fight hard as the season has progressed. Last Tuesday, they went to Shreveport and picked up a three-set win over Centenary (LA). On Tuesday of this week, MC traveled to Monticello, Ark. and fell in four sets to Henderson State.

Holly Tupper has been the team's only senior this season, and has been a leader on the squad since she stepped on campus four years ago. This year, she leads the team with 307 digs, giving her 1,736 for her career, a mark that is the best in school history by nearly 900. She has posted double-digit digs in six straight matches and 13 of the last 14.

Freshman Sydney Chandler had a big night on Tuesday against Henderson State and Arkansas-Monticello, posting 63 total assists, including a career-high 42 against HSU. Freshman Krista Zieschang leads the team with 175 kills, including tallying a season-high 15 against HSU. Freshman Kayana Mitchell has 121 kills on th year and leads the team with 42 blocks.

The Lady Flames (7-16, 4-9 GSC) have gone through a rough schedule lately, dropping eight of their last nine matches heading into Friday's tilt against MC. Lee boasts a balanced offensive attack with five players tallying at least 100 kills. Lauren Williams leads the way with 171 kills, while Latrice Johnson is just behind with 169. Four different players have posted 200 assists, led by Haley Foote with 327. Stephanie Hernandez leads the team with 329 digs, while Williams and Catherine Conley have a team-high 53 blocks.

The Lady Hawks (15-3, 12-1 GSC) are atop the Gulf South Conference rankings, winning 13 of their last 14 matches with the lone loss coming at Valdosta State in four sets. Jasmine Crook leads the team with 194 kills, while Elizabeth Dowd has posted 179. Cheyenne Frady has a team-high 417 assists, while Dena Pierce has 304. Cheyenne McLemore leads the squad with 266 digs, while Ana Graham has a team-high 52 blocks.

The Lady Bucs (12-11, 9-5 GSC) snapped a recent three-match losing streak by winning matches against Rollins and Alabama-Huntsville earlier this week. Alexis Gillis leads the team with 242 kills, while Brinsley Cooper has 199 on the year. Sami Gruse has a team-high 657 assists, while Gillis leads the team with 45 service aces and 259 digs. Mary Kathryn Miller leads the team with 65 blocks, while Cooper has 62.

The Lady Choctaws have already met each of these three teams this season, going four sets against Lee and CBU and three sets against Shorter.
