CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior
Macey Lee tied the Mississippi College goal-scoring record and set the school's points record as the women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over Spring Hill on Friday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.
In the 28th minute, Lee scored her 8th goal of the season, but more importantly, it was her 58th career goal that ties Jennifer Benson (2003-06) for most in school history. Junior
Eri Unai collected the assist on the goal that halted a stretch of two straight matches that MC had been held scoreless.
The Lady Choctaws took the 1-0 lead into halftime and held that advantage until the 79th minute when junior
Sayit Mejia Bello scored her 9th goal of the season on an assist from Lee that gave the Pearl native her 136th career point, which is the most in school history. She added another assist on Mejia Bello's 10th goal of the season to give her 137 career points.
MC dominated the match from start to finish with 25 shots to just seven for Spring Hill. Four different players had four shots for MC, including Lee, senior
Kaitlyn Kiss, junior
Becca Dupuy and freshman
Caitlin Hayes.
Sohpomore
Melanie Hummert tallied her first career shutout in her second career start, making four saves in net for the Lady Choctaws. Maggie Dalessio made five saves in goal for the Lady Badgers.
The victory snapped a three-match losing streak for MC. They will need just a win or draw in one of their final two matches to qualify for the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Regional.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they will celebrate "Senior Day" at Longabaugh Field. MC will host West Florida at 1:00 p.m.
