Volleyball Hosts North Alabama and Union This Weekend

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team will be at home for two matches this weekend when they host North Alabama and Union in A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC will face UNA on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Union on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Choctaws (4-14, 0-11 GSC) will look to get their first Gulf South Conference win of the season when they take the floor this weekend. Injuries to key players have kept MC from being full strength since the second week of the season, but the young team that boasts one senior, Holly Tupper, has continued to improved as the year as progressed.

Tupper is the team leader with 238 digs and now has 1,667 for her career, which is the most in school history by nearly 700. She was a three-time All-American Southwest Conference performer and has been the unquestioned team captain and leader in her final season. Tupper posted a season-high 28 digs earlier this season against Lee (Tenn.).

Freshman Krista Zieschang leads the team with 126 kills, recording double-figures four times this season, including 11 on Tuesday night at West Alabama. In the match against the Lady Tigers, she tallied a .435 hitting percentage with just one error in 23 attacks. The Sugar Land, Texas native posted a season-high of 12 kills in matches against Belhaven and Christian Brothers.

The Lady Lions (11-6, 8-4 GSC) come into Friday night's match with two straight losses against Christian Brothers and Shorter. On Thursday, they lost to the GSC-leading Hawks in three sets and then had to make the trip over to Clinton for Friday's match. UNA had won seven straight before falling in their last two matches.

Megan Gorey is the team-leader with 256 kills, posting a .263 hitting percentage with 3.94 kills per set. Natasha Fomina and Megan Wadsworth also have over 100 kills this season with 188 and 118, respectively. Andrea De Leon is the team's top setter with 653 assists, while Ashtyn Kapovich leads the squad with 283 digs. Megan Wadsworth tops the team with 52 total blocks on the year.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-13, 1-10 GSC) will play at West Alabama on Friday night before making the trip to Clinton for Saturday's match. Union has lost four straight and nine of their last 10 with the victory coming in four sets over Trevecca Nazarene on September 27th.

Deja Moorer leads the team with 175 kills, while Hannah Huguley has 105 on the season. Lydia Wright has been the team's top setter this season with 409 assists on the season, while Huguley has posted 161. Elise Seufert has a team-high 175 digs, but five players have topped 100 digs on the season. Mallory Baker leads the team with 36 total blocks.

This will be the second meeting between MC and their opponents this weekend. North Alabama and Union both collected three-set wins over the Lady Choctaws earlier this year.
