Shanell Kitchens recorded a pair of career-highs as the Lady Choctaws went 1-1 during the week. Kitchens posted a career-best with 22 points to lead MC to its first ever win over Union University and added a career-high and GSC-best nine steals. The nine swipes rank sixth in NCAA Division II this season. The Ridgeland, Miss., sophomore played all 45 minutes in the victory against the conference’s previously, top ranked team. Kitchens started the week with a roster-best 18 points against Christian Brothers and added three steals and three assists in the contest.
Kitchens shot 52 percent from the floor during the week, including a clip of 60 from the 3-point line, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line. She totaled seven assists, 12 steals and averaged 20 points.
She leads the conference in steals and steals per game this season and in the top 15 in the conference in points and assists per game.
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 23 as it travels to nationally-ranked Lee University.
