Junior quarterback Detric Hawthorn has been named the Mississippi College Wright & Ferguson Male Athlete of the Week.

Hawthorn (Collins, Miss.) helped lead the Choctaws to a 31-30 victory over Clark Atlanta in the 2018 season opener. The Jones County JC transfer rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns, also passing for 111 yards.

The signal-caller had long runs of 61 yards and 55 yards, the last of which went for a score to open the second half. Hawthorn averaged 10.1 yards on 14 carries in the home victory.

The Choctaws will be back at Robinson-Hale Stadium this Saturday when they will host Southwest Baptist at 6:00 p.m.
