CLINTON, MS - Maryville College made their second straight trip to Mississippi College Friday for the NCAA Division III National Tournament and picked up another win beating Mary Hardin-Baylor 73-62 to advance to the second round. The win was the tenth straight year Maryville has won an NCAA Tournament game, an NCAA record.
The Scots took an early lead and after battling back and forth they carried a 33-27 lead into halftime. In the second half a Bobby Golden jumper with 12:55 remaining gave MC their first double digit lead at 47-37. Maryville led by as many as 13 points in the second half.
UMHB would not get any closer than eight points down the stretch as Maryville held on for the win.
Bobby Golden was the game's high scorer finishing with 21 points. Golden was just 5-14 from the field but hit 11-12 shots from the charity stripe. Bo Mason and Brady Neal each scored ten ponts.
Kevin Guyden led the Crusaders with 20 points despite playing through foul trouble for much of the game. Guyden hit 7-20 from the field and 4-6 from the foul line. Ryan Burgart added eleven points.
The Crusaders outrebounded Maryville 46-38 but struggled from the field hitting just 35 percent of their shots. UMHB was making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
