CLINTON, MS - The 5th-ranked Mississippi College Choctaws (23-2) advanced to the semifinal round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a convincing 86-62 win over Concordia University (10-16).
Concordia kept the game close in the first half but a 15-5 run midway through the opening period gave MC a 34-21 lead and the Choctaws cruised from there maintaining a double digit lead.
The Choctaws placed five players in double figures led by D. J. Jones with 15 points. MC shot 59 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Tornados 47-26. Timothy Broomfield registered a double double with 12 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Jonathan Collins and Jaszmine Eugene each finished with eleven points. Ryan Hudson scored ten points.
Concordia was led by Joel McDonald who scored 18 points. Michael Sherlin and Brad Walker scored eleven points and ten points, respectively. The Tornados were held to 34 percent shooting hitting 21-62 shot attempts.
The Choctaws will face McMurry University (20-6) tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
