Mike Fairfax enters his third year as the Associate Head Track & Field Coach at Mississippi Christian University, where he oversees the program's sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and multi-event athletes.
Since arriving, Fairfax has been instrumental in the program's continued rise within the Gulf South Conference, helping develop championship-caliber athletes while building one of the conference's premier sprint, hurdle, jump, and combined events groups. Under his leadership, the program has produced numerous conference champions, school and conference records, NCAA Championship qualifiers, and major conference award winners.
During the 2025-26 season, Fairfax coached three NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifiers and guided athletes to an outstanding collection of Gulf South Conference titles.
2025-26 Indoor Season
Fairfax's event groups captured six conference championships:
- Men's 60m – Brodie Roberts
- Men's 60m Hurdles – Tristan Jusino-Lansing
- Men's Heptathlon – Jake McMillan (GSC Record)
- Men's 4x400 Relay (GSC Record)
- Men's Triple Jump – Schyler Chambers (GSC Record)
- Women's High Jump – Mallory Dial
Additional highlights included:
- Jake McMillan set a GSC record in the Heptathlon and a GSC record in the Heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
2025-26 Outdoor Season
Fairfax continued that momentum by coaching six more conference champions:
- Men's Decathlon – Jake McMillan (GSC Record)
- Men's 110m Hurdles – Tristan Jusino-Lansing
- Men's 400m Hurdles – Matias Vasquez (GSC Record)
- Men's 4x400 Relay
- Women's 400m Hurdles – Haylei Mason
Jake McMillan also established a GSC record in the Decathlon 110-meter hurdles.
The season concluded with multiple conference honors, including:
- Tristan Jusino-Lansing – Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year
- Jake McMillan – Gulf South Conference Field Athlete of the Year
One of Fairfax's proudest accomplishments has been coaching the Gulf South Conference Men's and Women's 400-meter hurdle champions in consecutive seasons, with four different athletes earning those titles over the two-year span—a testament to the depth and consistency of athlete development within the program.
Previous Success (2024-25)
In his first full season with the program, Fairfax helped guide both the men's and women's teams to fourth-place finishes at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships before improving to third-place finishes outdoors.
His athletes produced immediate success, including:

- Men's Long Jump Champion – DJ Daniels
- Men's 4x400 Relay Champions
- Women's sprint, hurdle and jump events increased from 25 to 36 conference points
- Men's sprint, hurdle and jump events increased from 21 to 33 conference points
- 23 combined additions to the program's all-time Top-10 lists
Outdoor
- Women's Long Jump Champion – Maddie Flugence
- Women's 400m Hurdles Champion and School Record – Hilary Udechukwu
- Men's 400m Hurdles Champion – Oliver Ollesch
- Men's 4x400 Relay Champions
- Women's sprint, hurdle and jump events increased from 31 to 78 conference points
- Men's sprint, hurdle and jump events increased from 34 to 45 conference points
- Oliver Ollesch was named Gulf South Conference Athlete of the Year
- Coached an individual NCAA National Qualifier (Oliver Ollesch, 400m hurdles)
- Coached the men's 4x400 relay to NCAA Championship qualification
Coaching Philosophy
"My coaching philosophy is to help develop young men and women into who Christ has created and saved them to be. Our sport is so much more than running, jumping, hurdling, or competing. It reveals who you are and what you're made of. It exposes your weaknesses while amplifying your strengths. I have the opportunity to help these student-athletes grow both on and off the track. My goal is to help them recognize the gifts God has given them and learn how to honor Him by using those gifts to accomplish incredible things."
Fairfax and his wife are both from Northern Virginia.
