John Works enters his first season as an assistant coach at Mississippi College in 2025, reuniting with newly appointed head coach Josh Brooks after three seasons together at Belhaven University. Works brings a well-rounded background in collegiate coaching, player development, and operations as he helps usher in a new era of Choctaw basketball in Clinton.
A Belhaven alumnus, Works returned to his alma mater in 2022 to join Brooks’ staff, where he played a key role in recruiting, scouting, video analysis, practice planning, and overall team operations. Prior to Belhaven, Works served as a Graduate Assistant Coach at NCAA Division II Delta State University for two seasons, gaining experience at a high level while earning a Master of Science in Human and Sports Performance.
As a player, Works competed at Belhaven from 2015–2019, making 54 appearances and earning 14 starts. He began his college career with a redshirt season at Freed-Hardeman University before transferring to Belhaven. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Belhaven in 2019.
A native of Corinth, Mississippi, Works is known for his dedication to mentoring student-athletes and his strong understanding of Mississippi’s basketball landscape. He and his wife, Parrish, reside in Flowood, Mississippi.
