Blake Weir is in his sixth year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications at Mississippi Christian University, where he oversees athletic communications, media relations, and digital content initiatives for the Choctaws’ 17 varsity sports.

Weir serves as the primary media contact for men’s basketball; men’s and women’s track and field and cross country; men’s and women’s tennis; men’s and women’s soccer; and softball. His responsibilities also include overseeing athletic communications personnel, directing digital media operations, assisting with marketing and fan engagement initiatives, and coordinating in-game presentation and production for various athletic events.

A central focus of Weir’s leadership is the development of aspiring athletic communications professionals. He oversees, trains, and mentors a team of more than 12 student interns and staff members at a time, providing hands-on opportunities in sports information, broadcasting, graphic design, photography, videography, social media, and live-event production. Through individualized mentorship, professional development, and increased responsibility, Weir works to equip students with the experience, confidence, and leadership skills necessary to pursue careers throughout the collegiate athletics industry.

Athletic Communications Innovation and Leadership

Throughout his tenure, Weir has played a key role in enhancing game presentation, fan engagement, and communications infrastructure at Mississippi Christian. He helped implement the ProPresenter scoreboard system in A.E. Wood Coliseum and introduced a streamlined, department-wide graphics package through BoxOut Sports. His efforts have emphasized innovation, consistency, efficiency, and an improved experience for student-athletes, fans, and media partners.

Weir has also overseen football and basketball video board operations using Motion Rocket, managing live-event execution, production workflows, and system functionality. Early in his tenure, football video board operations were controlled remotely from the Coliseum, creating logistical challenges on game days. He helped transition the department to a more efficient structure by separating football and basketball production systems, relocating football operations to the press box while maintaining basketball production within the Coliseum.

During the 2025–26 academic year, Weir led the renovation of the Coliseum control room, transforming the space into the university’s first dedicated Athletic Communications Media Room. The renovated facility serves as a multipurpose creative space for recruiting photo shoots, team photography, press conferences, interviews, and digital content production. He has also continued assisting with efforts to further streamline Coliseum video board operations through the development of a dedicated audio and production control space.

In 2025, Weir helped implement and launch the Choctaw Rewards program in partnership with Snap! Mobile’s FanX platform. The digital fan engagement initiative allows students and supporters to check in at athletic events, earn reward points, and redeem prizes through an integrated rewards store. The program was designed to encourage attendance, strengthen student engagement, and build long-term loyalty among Choctaw fans.

Athletic Fundraising and Development

Beginning in the summer of 2026, Weir expanded his responsibilities to include athletic fundraising coordination and digital campaign management in collaboration with the Mississippi Christian University Foundation and Development Office.

Serving as a primary liaison between MC Athletics, the university’s advancement team, and its GiveCampus fundraising platform, Weir helps manage the digital fundraising presence of the university’s athletic programs. His responsibilities include coordinating team fundraising pages, assisting with campaign development and design, organizing campaign schedules, and collaborating with coaches and university development personnel to support fundraising initiatives.

Through this expanded role, Weir helps bridge athletic department needs with institutional advancement efforts, creating a more coordinated approach to digital fundraising, campaign communication, and donor engagement across MC Athletics.

Developing the Next Generation of Athletic Communications Leaders

Beyond his responsibilities in media relations and athletic operations, Weir is passionate about mentoring students and young professionals pursuing careers in collegiate athletics.

His approach centers on providing meaningful, hands-on experience while encouraging students to take ownership of their work, develop new skills, and grow into leadership positions. Rather than limiting interns to a single area of responsibility, Weir encourages them to explore multiple aspects of athletic communications, discover their strengths, and develop a versatile professional skill set.

Weir’s philosophy emphasizes that opportunity in the athletic communications industry is built through dedication, accountability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.

“I believe that if you’re willing to put in the effort, accept responsibility, and invest the time to grow in this industry, you can go as far as you’re willing to work toward. Our goal at MC isn’t just to prepare students for their next job. It’s to develop the next generation of athletic communications leaders who are ready to make an impact wherever their careers take them.”

Under his mentorship and leadership, several former student interns and staff members have advanced into athletic communications, creative content, and administrative positions at collegiate institutions across the country.
