Zach Wilkerson enters his first season as the defensive coordinator at Mississippi College and has his expertise in the 4-2-5 defensive scheme.

Wilkerson spent the 2012 season as the Defensive Backs and Special Teams coach for Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss.

Prior to that, Wilkerson coached seven seasons at NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University and spent time working with defensive backs and linebackers before being promoted to defensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator prior to the 2009 season.

In his four seasons as DC, Wilkerson's scoring defense improved by almost 17 points from when he took over in 2009. The Bearcats were Top 20 nationally in third down defense, fumble recoveries and turnovers forced last season. Wilkerson had two all-conference LBs this ­past seaso­n in Jameson Ma­numa and S­haquille S­hedd, both of which went ove­r 100 ta­ckles.

Wilkerson came to SBU from his alma mater, Kansas Wesleyan, where he coached linebackers for one semester. As a player from 2002-05, Wilkerson was a two-year starter at middle linebacker and was named Don Hansen's NAIA National Player of the Week during his career.

Wilkerson's coaching experience also includes the Texas High School All-Star Game in 2006.

A native of Keller, Texas, Wilkerson received his B.A. in hi­story and his M.S. in education from Kansas Wesleyan. He and his wife Brittny were married in August 2006 and have a 1-year-old son, Paxton.
