One of the greatest receivers in Mississippi College history has returned home to the Choctaw football coaching staff. Ricky Herzog is entering his fifth season as an assistant coach and will lead the defensive backs.
Herzog was a four-year starter for the Choctaws, being named an All-American as a senior in 1972. He was named the team's MVP twice and the Jackson Football Club named him the Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1972.
Following his playing career at Mississippi College, Herzog has had several coaching stops, inlcuding a 10-year stint at MC, along with Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Samford and West Georgia. He also spent some time at Griffin High School in Georgia. Herzog also spent seven seasons at Marengo Academy in Linden, Ala. where he went 69-12.
