Jeremy DeSoto enters his fifth season on the Mississippi College coaching staff and his fourth season as a full-time coach.
In 2011, DeSoto led a linebacker unit that had two players earn All-ASC honors in Blake Rowell and Jeremy Bertrand. Rowell was a First Team Selection and was picked to play in the D3 Senior Classic, which recognizes the top seniors in Division III. Rowell led the nation with eight forced fumbles and was tops in the conference with 19.5 tackles for loss. Bertrand was an Honorable Mention selection, as well as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the top scholar-athletes in the country over all three NCAA divisions.
DeSoto helped lead an MC defense in 2010 that finished fifth in the American Southwest Conference in scoring defense and total defense, while finishing third in rushing defense and fouth in passing defense. Jeremy coached the defensive line and senior Nolan Willisson was named the Second Team at defensive end.
In 2009, Jeremy made the transition to the defensive line where he helped lead a defense that finished fifth in the league in rushing defense (162.7 ypg) and sixth in scoring defense (31.6 ppg). Both defensive ends, Nolan Willisson and Brad Holt, earned All-ASC honors.
In his first year with the Choctaws in 2008, Desoto worked with the safeties and helped the Choctaw defense rank among the top defenses in the ASC. The Choctaws ranked 4th in the ASC in scoring defense and total defense, and were 3rd in rushing defense.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Desoto is valuable as a recruiter where he focuses on the state of Louisiana. Last year Desoto brought in several top newcomers who are expected to step into immediate playing time.
