Offensive line coach Corky Houghton enters his fifth season on the Mississippi College coaching staff after joining the program in the spring of 2008. The veteran coach brings years of experience to the program from all levels of competition.

In 2012, Houghton took the reigns as the offensive coordinator and the Choctaws had two players earn All-ASC honors in Alex Archer and Cody Saxton.  Archer led the team with 48 catches for 738 yards and five touchdowns, while Saxton earned his second All-ASC selection in as many years.  Sylvain Alarcon and Eric Madere were ASC All-Academic selections along the offensive line and were also CoSIDA Capital One All-Academic All-District selections.

The 2011 season saw Houghton lead an offensive line with two Second Team All-ASC selections in Justin Cardwell and Cody Saxton.  Cardwell was a three-year starter for the Choctaws at left tackle, while Saxton was a transfer that made an immediate impact on the program.  MC averaged rushing for 137.0 yards per game and 14 TD’s with a relatively young group up front.

In 2010, Houghton coached a running attack that finished fifth in the ASC with 165.1 yards per game.  The offensive line carried the load as six different running backs saw significant time in the backfield.  Three MC lineman earned All-ASC honors with Terrence Taylor and Chris Williams earning Second Team honors and Jonathan Shaw being given an Honorable Mention.  Austin Divinity earned All-ASC Second Team honors at tailback.  Shaw was also named a D3PRODAY.com All-American after the season, which recognizes the top pro prospects in Division III.

As the offensive line coach in 2009, Houghton led a running game that averaged 161.2 yards per game and ranked fifth in the American Southwest Conference.  Corky spearheaded an offensive line that sprung Steven Knight for 1,333 yards and 11 touchdowns while taking home First Team All-ASC honors.  Senior Josh Lankford earned a First Team All-ASC selection, while also being named ASC Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Houghton spent 2006-08 serving as the offensive coordinator for Wakeland High School in Frisco, TX for Head Coach Marty Secord. Prior to his stint at Wakeland, Houghton spent six years on the football staff at Louisiana College as the offensive line coach. During his last season with the Wildcats, Houghton also filled the position of Assistant Head Coach.

Houghton joined the Louisiana College coaching staff in 2000 when the Wildcat program was restarted. During his six seasons at LC the program saw steady progress back to a winning program. In 2004, Houghton was part of a staff that finished 5-5 overall and 4-5 in the American Southwest Conference. The head coach that year was Coach Norman Joseph who would spend his only year with the Wildcats.

In 2004 at LC, Houghton’s offensive line helped pave the way for an explosive offense that ranked second in the ASC in passing yards per game at just over 300 yards per contest. Also, the starting and backup tailbacks combined to rush for over 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns with an average per carry of 5.5 yards.

Houghton also has held positions at other high schools and time on the staff at the University of Texas at El-Paso. He was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Arkansas after a playing career at Austin College. Houghton received his bachelors and masters degree at Austin College.

Houghton is married to wife Debra and together they have three children: Haley (21), Chase (19) and Kelsey (17).
