Mississippi College baseball graduate assistant Brett Basham is entering his first season at that position in the program. Basham helped as a volunteer assistant in the 2011 season, helping lead the Choctaws to a 24-18 record and an 11-7 mark in the American Southwest Conference.
Basham played four years (2006-09) at the University of Mississippi, serving as the primary catcher for his career. He played in 185 games, starting 149 behind the plate. Brett recorded 124 hits, including 19 doubles, six home runs and three triples, to go along with 72 RBI. He also scored 57 runs in his four seasons. Basham had 1,282 put-outs and 162 assists, compiling a .983 fielding percentage.
Brett earned his Bachelor degree in Exercise Science at the University of Mississippi in 2009. He then went on a played Class A Baseball in the San Diego Padres organization in 2010 before coming to serve as a volunteer assistant at MC. He then went on to be an assistant at LSU-Eunice in 2012 before coming to MC as the graduate assistant. The Knoxville, Tenn. native is currently working towards a graduate degree in Athletic Administration at MC.
