CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Mississippi Christian lost to Lee 1-0 on Saturday in conference play at Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Choctaws kept the match scoreless through the first half before Lee scored the only goal after halftime. MC was held to three shots, one on goal, while its goalkeeper made six saves against 18 Lee shots.
The Blue and Gold kept Lee off the scoreboard in the first half, with
Paityn Settlemires saving all four shots Lee put on frame. Earlier, Settlemires stopped Isabella Valentine attempts in the 14th and 19th minutes, then denied Emma Nelson in the 22nd as MC absorbed the early pressure.
Jaylen Bodry had the Choctaws' shot on goal in the 31st minute, but Abby Whitcomb made the save. Settlemires added another save on Siri Stenslie in the 33rd minute, and MC got through two late Lee corner kicks as the half ended 0-0.
The Choctaws absorbed sustained second-half pressure and stayed level until Lee broke through on Addie Chapman's goal at 81:46 for a 1-0 score. Earlier, Settlemires made saves on Lee shots at 50:20 and 80:17, while the defense dealt with six Lee corner kicks and a shot off the left woodwork in the 75th minute. Aidyn Hagan in the 62nd minute and Bodry in the 71st, and added a corner kick at 71:56. Lee finished the half with the only goal, and MC fell 1-0.
Settlemires made four saves as Lee put four of its six first-half shots on goal and earned three corner kicks. MC recorded one shot, a Bodry attempt saved by Abby Whitcomb in the 31st minute, and the teams went to halftime scoreless.
The Choctaws were limited to two second-half shots, while Lee generated 12 attempts and held a 6-1 edge in corners. Settlemires made two saves before Addie Chapman scored in the 82nd minute, and Lee finished the half with a 1-0 advantage.
Settlemires recorded six saves over 90 minutes in goal, allowing one goal on 18 shots faced. Bodry led MC with two shots and put one attempt on goal.
