Mississippi College Women Stay Perfect in Florida; Men Split Weekend

MELBOURNE & SAINT LEO, Fla. — The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up a strong week in Florida, highlighted by wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Saint Leo, while the Lady Choctaws also added a victory over Lynn. The MC women remained unbeaten on the trip, while the Choctaw men split their matches.

Women Sweep Florida Matches

Mississippi College's women's team continued its impressive start to the season, earning victories over Palm Beach Atlantic, Lynn and Saint Leo.

The Lady Choctaws opened the stretch with a 7-0 sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic in Melbourne. MC dominated throughout the lineup, beginning with the doubles point.

Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett secured a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber claimed a 6-4 decision at No. 2. Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez sealed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory in the third position.

MC then won all six singles matches in straight sets. Buchanan took the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2, while Weber (No. 3), Martinez (No. 2), Van Wyk (No. 4), Hudson (No. 5) and Stockett (No. 6) each added wins to complete the shutout.

The Lady Choctaws followed with another strong performance in Saint Leo, defeating the Lions 6-1.

Buchanan and Stockett opened the match with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Hudson and Martinez clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.

In singles play, Buchanan secured a three-set win at the top spot, while Martinez, Van Wyk and Hudson all earned straight-set victories. Stockett added another point at No. 6 singles to seal the match.

Mississippi College's women remain in Florida and return to action Friday against Tampa.

Men Split Florida Matches

The Choctaw men posted a 6-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic before dropping a 4-0 decision to Saint Leo.

Against Palm Beach Atlantic, MC captured the doubles point with wins from the pairs of Matias Ruiz/Mattia Ricci and Joshua Hinton/Sergio Ramirez Ocana.

In singles play, Ricci battled to a three-set win at No. 1, while Ruiz, Mikayel Avanesyan, Florian Walcher, Sergio Ramirez Ocana and Lucas de Carvalho all earned straight-set victories to complete the team win.

Mississippi College then faced Saint Leo the following day. The Lions secured the doubles point and built an early lead before the match was clinched with three singles victories, resulting in a 4-0 final score.
