BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi College Track & Field earned multiple Gulf South Conference weekly honors on Wednesday, as the league announced its Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for performances during the week of Jan. 5–11.
Freshman Mallory Dial was named GSC Women's Freshman of the Week after delivering a standout performance in the high jump at the UAB Vulcan Invitational. Dial cleared a collegiate personal-best height of 1.64 meters (5 feet, 4.5 inches) to place second overall in the event. The mark now ranks second in the Gulf South Conference and stands as the top performance among conference freshmen this indoor season.
On the men's side, freshman Schyler Chambers collected GSC Men's Freshman of the Week honors following an impressive showing in the jumps at the UAB Vulcan Invitational. Chambers recorded collegiate personal bests in both events, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.81 meters (48 feet, 7.25 inches) and third in the long jump at 6.87 meters (22 feet, 6.5 inches). He now ranks second in the GSC in both events and earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump.
Mississippi College also had multiple athletes recognized as nominees for weekly honors. Lauren Wallace was nominated for Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Kennedy Thompson earned consideration for Women's Field Athlete of the Week. On the men's side, Benjamin Hudson was nominated for Track Athlete of the Week, and senior thrower Steven Conrad received a nomination for Field Athlete of the Week.
The weekly awards highlight a strong early-season start for the Choctaws, as Mississippi College continues to post conference-leading marks, personal bests, and national qualifying performances during the indoor campaign.
The Choctaws return to action this Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.
