MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mississippi College and Christian Brothers University battled to a 4-4 draw on Friday at Signaigo Field. Both teams scored three goals in a tense second half, with Mississippi College converting a penalty kick and Christian Brothers University equalizing late to secure the tie. Mississippi College totaled 15 shots with seven on target, while Christian Brothers University recorded 18 shots, 13 of which were on goal.
Mississippi College and Christian Brothers University began the match with both teams displaying aggressive play. Mississippi College took an early lead in the 20th minute when
Russell Berko scored with an assist from
Sergio Garrido. Christian Brothers University leveled the match in the 30th minute, as Joe Vokins found the back of the net, assisted by Juan Minguez Malonda. The half concluded with a 1-1 tie.
Christian Brothers University took an early lead in the second half with a goal from Will Allen in the 46th minute. Mississippi College responded quickly, leveling the score in the 49th minute through
Lewis Matton. The home team regained the advantage in the 67th minute with a goal by Minguez Malonda, assisted by Vokins. Mississippi College equalized again when Garrido converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Berko then put Mississippi College ahead with a goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Matton. However, Minguez Malonda scored again for Christian Brothers University in the 89th minute, assisted by Olivier van der Tuin, to end the match in a 4-4 draw.
Cole Turner recorded nine saves in the match, with three in the first half and six in the second. Berko scored two goals from his four shots, both of which were on target. Garrido contributed with one goal and one assist, also leading the team with four shots, three of which were on goal. Matton added a goal and an assist, converting two of his three total shots into shots on target.
