MC Honors First Responders on 9/11 Tribute Day, Drops Match to Nova Southeastern

CLINTON, Miss. — Nova Southeastern University defeated Mississippi College 4-0 on Thursday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. Prior to the game, the event held a special Patriotic Day ceremony, honoring the Clinton Police Department and first responders in memory of 9/11. The Sharks dominated the first half, scoring three goals, and added a fourth in the second half to secure the win. The Choctaws managed four shots, but none were on target, while the visitors' defense maintained a clean sheet.

The first half saw Nova Southeastern take an early lead with Genesis Hernandez scoring in the 5th minute, assisted by Sofia Suarez and Stina Roswall. Rylie Waclawczyk made a crucial save in the 23rd minute, but Hernandez extended the visitors' lead with another goal in the 25th minute. Despite attempts from Vail Wartes and Abby Badurak to narrow the gap, the Choctaws trailed 3-0 at the end of the first half after Oliwia Loeman's goal in the 41st minute.

The second half began with Mississippi College looking to overcome a three-goal deficit. Despite a strong start, the Sharks extended their lead in the 52nd minute with a goal from Loeman. Charlie Cooper attempted to narrow the gap with a shot in the 76th minute but missed to the left, leaving the final score at 4-0 in favor of the visitors.

Nova Southeastern took control early in the match with a commanding three-goal lead in the first half. Hernandez scored twice, first in the fifth minute and again in the 25th minute, both times assisted by Suarez. Loeman added another goal in the 41st minute with an assist from Isabel Davis. The Choctaws' attempts by Wartes and Badurak were off-target, while goalkeeper Waclawczyk recorded a save against Ella Niemela's shot.

Mississippi College struggled to find offensive momentum in the second half, managing only one shot by Cooper in the 76th minute that went wide left. The visitors extended their lead with a goal by Loeman at the 52nd minute, bringing the final score to 4-0. Despite a save by Brynn Hedberg in the 50th minute from Jianna Ramirez's shot, the Choctaws could not close the gap, marking a decisive victory for the visitors.

Wartes led the Choctaws with two shots during the match. Waclawczyk, in goal for 45 minutes, recorded one save against seven shots faced. Cooper added to the team's offensive efforts with one shot. Hedberg, also guarding the net for 45 minutes, managed one save from four shots faced.
