Young Talent Shines Bright as Choctaws Cap Off 2025 Softball Season with GSC Honors and Regional Run

CLINTON, Miss. — The 2025 Mississippi College softball season was marked by resilience, emerging talent, and strong team play. Under first-year head coach Leigh Streetman, the Choctaws finished with a 36-19 overall record, a 22-11 mark in Gulf South Conference play, and their third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.

Leading the postseason honors was standout freshman catcher Blakely Gill, named GSC Co-Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GSC. Gill was also selected First Team All-South Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) after finishing the season with a .395 batting average, 40 RBIs, 18 doubles, five home runs, and a 1.060 OPS. She played a key role in a lineup that blended youthful talent with strong offensive production.

Shelby Samples earned Second Team NFCA All-South Region and First Team All-GSC honors. Samples led the team with a .407 batting average, recording 72 hits, 10 doubles, and 19 stolen bases.  Madelyn England (.353, 8 HR, 36 RBI) was another key contributor, earning First Team All-NFCA South Region and All-GSC honors. Camryn Bailey (14-7, 2.19 ERA) was also recognized for her work in the circle, posting a team-high 14 wins and an impressive 2.19 ERA.

In total, four Choctaws earned All-GSC honors, underscoring a season where six true freshmen made a combined 161 starts and appeared in 222 games—a reflection of their immediate impact and the program's promising future.

Following a program-record 48-win season in 2024, the 2025 team built on that success with 36 wins and remained competitive on the national stage. Their third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance highlighted the program's continued growth and consistency.

In the circle, the pitching duo of Bailey and Madison Jenkins (15-7, 2.33 ERA) was effective all season, combining for over 275 innings and 249 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Choctaws finished the season with a .306 team batting average, 36 home runs, and 80 stolen bases.

The 2025 season followed the challenge of losing a core group of veteran players from the back-to-back 40-win seasons of 2023 and 2024. Despite the turnover, the team's performance under Streetman demonstrated that the foundation for sustained success is firmly in place.

With a promising freshman class, strong returning players, and a foundation firmly established in Leigh Streetman's first season, Mississippi College softball is poised for continued success and growth in 2026 and beyond.
