OXFORD, Ala. — The Mississippi College softball team is set to begin its postseason journey in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Softball Tournament, taking on sixth-seeded West Alabama in a first-round matchup Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Choccolocco Park.
The Choctaws (34-15, 22-11Â GSC) enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed following a strong regular-season campaign under head coach Leigh Streetman, who has guided MC to one of its best finishes since joining NCAA Division II. The Choctaws closed the regular season on a three-game winning streak and finished just behind Auburn Montgomery and West Florida in the league standings.
West Alabama (30-17, 19-13 GSC) earned the No. 6 seed, edging out Valdosta State for the tiebreaker. The Tigers swept the regular-season series against MC in Clinton back in February, but the Choctaws have gone 21-10 since that series, showcasing major improvements on both sides of the ball.
MC's balanced success—13-4 at home, 15-8 on the road, and 6-4 at neutral sites—has been fueled by timely offense, clutch pitching, and standout performances throughout the lineup. A sweep of then-No. 2 Auburn Montgomery and series wins over Trevecca, Lee, and Union highlighted the regular-season schedule.
The eight-team double elimination tournament will run April 30–May 3 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala., co-hosted by the City of Oxford and the Gulf South Conference.
