VALDOSTA, Ga. – Behind a powerful offensive performance and a strong outing from Madison Jenkins, Mississippi College secured a 10-3 victory over Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon at Steel's Diamond.
The Choctaws (25-10, 15-6 GSC) jumped ahead early, with Madelyn England launching a two-run homer in the first inning to give MC a 2-0 lead. Blakely Gill added to the advantage in the third with a solo shot to center field, and Caylee Comer followed with a two-run blast in the fourth to push the lead to 5-0.
Valdosta State (20-13, 15-5 GSC) responded in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer from Rachael Lee, but the Choctaws kept the pressure on. MC plated two more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Morgan Lavergne RBI single. The seventh inning saw Mississippi College put the game out of reach, with Ashley Light capping the scoring with a two-run single to seal the 10-3 victory.
Jenkins (10-2) earned the win in the circle, tossing six innings while allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven. Camryn Bailey closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
England led the Choctaws at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Comer and Gill each homered in the win. MC finished with 12 hits on the day.
Mississippi College continues conference play next weekend with a home series against Christian Brothers starting on Friday April, 4 at 5 p.m.
