Tennis Teams Sweep Southern Arkansas 4-0 in Doubleheader

CLINTON, Miss. – The Mississippi College men's and women's tennis teams each earned dominant 4-0 victories over Southern Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton.

The No. 22-ranked Mississippi College men's team improved to 10-3 on the season with the win, while Southern Arkansas dropped to 7-5.

Men's Match

The Choctaws secured the victory in doubles play, with Alex Benichou Blanchard and Rafael Sabio winning 6-4 in the No. 1 spot over Tim Fischer and Uwe Diehl of Southern Arkansas. Walker Ellis and Florian Walcher fell in the No. 2 spot to Mathys Pinoit and Niklas Muller, 6-4. Alvaro Saint Martin and Sergio Ramirez Ocana closed out doubles with a 7-5 win over Jinsei Tajima and Lluc Pasqual.

In singles play, the Choctaws dominated. Benichou Blanchard defeated Pinoit 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. Walcher won 6-3, 6-4 over David Wallechner, while Ramirez Ocana cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tajima. Sabio and Saint Martin's matches were left unfinished as Mississippi College secured the necessary four points for the victory.

Women's Match

The Mississippi College women's team also picked up a 4-0 victory, improving to 10-3 on the season. Southern Arkansas dropped to 7-5.

In doubles action, Alizee Ripolles and Anna Hudson were leading 5-3 in their match when it was unfinished. Katharina Weber and Ricio Martinez won 6-3 in the No. 2 spot over Maria Fiacan and Amelie Gindl. Ann Cabot Stockett and Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez won 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Martinez defeated Gindl 6-1, 6-2, while De Mata Rodríguez topped Josie Holderbach 6-4, 3-4 (unfinished). Weber won 6-3, 7-5 over Maria Fiacan, and Hudson triumphed 6-3, 6-3 over Ifigeneia Kafka. Elena Roberts completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Honoka Yoshimura.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action at home on Friday, March 21, hosting Auburn University Montgomery at the MC Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
