CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Mississippi College wrapped up a dominant weekend on the road, defeating Lee University 13-3 on Saturday to complete a Gulf South Conference series sweep at Butler Field.
The Choctaws (21-8, 11-4Â GSC) exploded offensively, tallying 13 runs on 13 hits. Bella Myers highlighted the scoring with her first career home run, a grand slam in the third inning that broke the game open. Madelyn England and Megan Matheis also homered, as Mississippi College struck early and often against the Flames (16-12, 4-10Â GSC).
England got things started with a solo home run in the first inning, followed by Matheis' solo shot to right center. Myers added an RBI single in the second, and in the third, Morgan Lavergne's bunt single plated a run before Myers delivered her grand slam to push the lead to 8-1.
The Choctaws capped their scoring with a five-run fifth inning. England's RBI single and an RBI hit from Caylee Comer extended the lead, while Lavergne and Sarah Lee each drove in runs to seal the win.
Camryn Bailey (10-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. Brookelyn Cannon and A.K. Willingham combined to close out the game, holding Lee to six hits.
Mississippi College returns home next weekend for a three-game GSC series against Trevecca Nazarene, starting with a Friday doubleheader at 3 p.m. CT.
