ALBERTVILLE, Ala.  — Mississippi College picked up two impressive victories at the Chillout tournament in Albertville, Alabama, on Saturday, securing a 9-4 win over Shorter and an 11-0 shutout against Kentucky Wesleyan.
Game One: Mississippi College 9, Shorter 4
Mississippi College (4-4) got off to a strong start in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning. Brookelyn Cannon reached on a fielding error by Shorter's first baseman, allowing Blakely Gill to score and Megan Lavergne to cross the plate. Megan Matheis followed with a two-run single to right field, bringing the score to 4-0.
Shorter answered back with two runs in the second and another in the third, cutting the deficit to 6-3. In the second inning, Kelsey Arnold singled up the middle to score Lacie Mitchell. Then, an error by the shortstop allowed Arnold to score on a throwing mistake, bringing the score to 4-2. The third inning saw Arnold drive in another run, making it 6-3.
However, Mississippi College extended its lead in the sixth inning. Shelby Samples singled to right field, scoring Sarah Lee to make it 7-3. Gill then added a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Lavergne, and Madison Jenkins followed with a sacrifice fly of her own to score Lavergne again, bringing the score to 9-3.
Shorter added a final run in the seventh when A.J. Brown singled through the left side to score Hollingsworth, but Mississippi College closed out the game with a 9-4 victory. Cannon (1-0) pitched a complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out four. Gill led the offense with a home run, two singles, and three RBIs.

The second inning was a breakout for Mississippi College, as they scored six more runs. Morgan Lavergne hit a two-run double to right field, scoring A. Rodgers and B. Myers. Shelby Samples followed with an RBI single, and Megan England drove in a run with a single to left side. After a wild pitch, the Choctaws tacked on a sixth run, making it 7-0.
Mississippi College added two more in the third when Samples doubled to center field, scoring Lavergne, and Blakely Gill singled through the left side to bring Samples home for a 9-0 lead. In the fourth, the Choctaws completed the scoring with two more runs. M. Jenkins singled to left field, driving in M. England, and A. Rodgers added an RBI single, scoring A. Dover to seal the 11-0 victory.
Madison Jenkins (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out no batters, and Anna Willingham closed out the game with a scoreless fifth inning. Lavergne and Samples each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense.
