ALBERTVILLE, Ala. ---Â Mississippi College took Lincoln Memorial to extra innings on Friday afternoon but came up just short in a 2-1 loss. The Choctaws move to 2-4Â on the season as they shift focus to a Saturday doubleheader.
Both teams remained scoreless through three innings in a strong defensive battle. Lincoln Memorial struck first in the fourth inning when R. Vivrette hit an inside-the-park home run down the left field line, giving LMU a 1-0 lead.
Mississippi College evened the score in the seventh inning as Camryn Bailey delivered a clutch solo home run to center field, forcing extra innings.
Lincoln Memorial regained the lead in the eighth, pushing across the deciding run. The Choctaws fought to respond but couldn't find the tying run in the bottom half.
Bailey (2-2) was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts, allowing just two hits and one earned run. She also led MC offensively with her game-tying homer. Morgan Lavergne and Caylee Comer each recorded two hits to pace the Choctaw lineup.
Mississippi College looks to bounce back on Saturday in Albertville, Ala., with a doubleheader against Shorter at 11:00 a.m. and Western Kentucky at 1:30 p.m.
