MONTEVALLO, Ala. — Mississippi College secured a 2-1 victory over the University of Montevallo on Sunday at Varsity Field. In doing so, MC not only celebrated a hard-fought win but also cemented their status as the GSC Regular Season Champions, a title they last claimed in 2023. MC took an early lead with two first-half goals, including a game-winner, and maintained the advantage despite the Falcons' second-half effort. The visitors outshot the hosts 15-11, with The Blue and Gold's defense recording four saves to preserve the win.
Mississippi College took an early lead against Montevallo in the first half with a goal at 6', as
Lewis Matton scored with an assist from
Sergio Garrido. The visitors doubled their advantage when Garrido converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute. The Falcons managed several attempts on goal, including a notable shot by Benjamin Williams in the 8th minute that was saved by MC's goalkeeper,
Cole Turner. Despite these efforts, Montevallo was unable to find the back of the net, leaving the score at 2-0 in favor of The Blue and Gold at the end of the half.
The second half opened with Montevallo applying pressure, evidenced by Oscar Vallejo's early shot following a corner kick opportunity. MC responded with several attempts on goal, including shots from

Montevallo managed to shift the momentum midway through the half. A penalty kick converted by Dominic Kienzle in the 71st minute narrowed the score, making it 2-1. The Choctaws continued to create chances, with shots by
Patrick Vukoje and
Brandon Reyes, but the home team's defense held firm. The half concluded with MC maintaining their 2-1 lead, showcasing resilience and strategic play.
Sergio Garrido recorded one goal and one assist, contributing to the team's victory with four total shots, three of which were on goal. His efforts included scoring the game-winning goal. Matton added to the scoreline with a goal, finishing with two shots on target from three attempts.
