HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — MC (13-1-4, 9-0-2) secured a 2-1 victory over UAH (9-4-4, 5-3-3) at John Hunt Park on Friday, with all goals coming in the second half. With this win, MC advances to the GSC Championship game, which will be played on Sunday at noon in Huntsville, Ala.
The match opened with both teams testing each other's defenses. MC had early opportunities, with Berko attempting a shot in the third minute, only to be denied by UAH's goalkeeper, Wright. Turner, guarding the net for Mississippi College, made critical saves against UAH's attempts, including efforts by Mpagi Jr. and Seifert. Despite MC's offensive pressure, including multiple corner kicks and shots by Pena and
Sergio Garrido, the first half concluded with UAH taking the lead. Orzechowski found the net in the 41st minute, giving UAH a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Mississippi College began the second half with momentum, as Berko capitalized on an assist from Matton to score in the 52nd minute, bringing the score to 1-1. The Blue and Gold maintained offensive pressure, with several corner kicks and attempts on goal, though UAH's defense held firm until late in the match.
In the closing moments, MC's persistence was rewarded when Berko found the back of the net again in the 89th minute, securing a 2-1 lead. The Choctaws' defense, anchored by Turner, successfully thwarted UAH's attempts to equalize, holding on to win the match 2-1.
