CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College and the University of Montevallo battled to a scoreless draw on Wednesday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The Choctaws' defense was resilient, with the goalkeeper making eight saves, including seven in the first half. Despite outshooting MC 19-11, Montevallo, who came into the matchup as the top team in the GSC, could not break through, as both teams maintained a clean sheet throughout the match.
The first half opened with Mississippi College's goalkeeper,
Celine Grothe, setting a defensive tone by making several key saves. Grothe denied Montevallo's offensive attempts, including shots from Bear Bradbury and Mary Casey, maintaining a clean sheet. The Blue and Gold's
Summer Utzig managed a shot attempt, but it sailed wide in the 15th minute. The Choctaws' defense held firm against Montevallo's persistent attacks, including multiple corner kicks. The half concluded with both teams scoreless, thanks to Grothe's critical saves and MC's solid defensive efforts.
The second half opened with The Blue and Gold generating multiple scoring opportunities, highlighted by
Olivia Graham's shot in the 47th minute that went wide.
Lillie Young and
Erin Stamatopoulos continued the pressure with attempts, but both shots were off target.
Montevallo's defense remained resilient, with goalkeeper Ciara Duff making crucial saves against shots by
Paula Catalan and
Karah Boydstun around the 70th minute mark. Grothe also contributed defensively for MC, saving a shot from Montevallo's Tessa Harrington in the 78th minute.
Despite a late push from both teams, including a shot from Graham that struck the woodwork, the half concluded without any goals, maintaining a 0-0 draw at the final whistle.
