Lady Choctaws Clinch GSC Tournament Berth With 4-0 Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — MC (7-7-3, 5-4-2) secured a decisive 4-0 victory over AUM (1-12-2, 0-9-2) on the road at the AUM Soccer Complex, with a standout defensive performance resulting in a shutout.

The first period commenced with Mississippi College taking control early. Karah Boydstun opened the scoring in the 13th minute, assisted by Erin Stamatopoulos. Vail Wartes extended the lead in the 21st minute. MC maintained offensive pressure, and Stamatopoulos added a third goal in the 36th minute with an assist from Paula Catalan.

Lillie Young further increased the lead with a goal in the 42nd minute, assisted by Stamatopoulos. The Blue and Gold ended the period with a strong 4-0 advantage, establishing a commanding position going into the second half.

The second period featured a solid defensive performance by MC, maintaining control despite multiple attempts by Auburn University at Montgomery to shift momentum. Olivia Graham and Summer Utzig led the offensive efforts with multiple shots, but AUM's goalkeeper, Karla Guzman-Ortiz, was effective in making key saves to keep the Choctaws from extending their lead further.

MC continued to press with several corner kicks and shots on goal, maintaining the pressure on AUM's defense. Brynn Hedberg contributed defensively with a crucial save against a shot by AUM's Lana Collado Lopez. As the period concluded, the Choctaws preserved their lead, finishing the match with a 4-0 victory, having kept AUM scoreless throughout the game. This victory also clinched a GSC tournament berth for Mississippi College, marking a significant achievement for the team.

Erin Stamatopoulos contributed significantly by scoring one goal and providing two assists, effectively leading the offensive efforts. Vail Wartes found the back of the net with her only shot on goal. Karah Boydstun secured the victory with a game-winning goal, converting one of her three shots.
