CLINTON, Miss. — The Blue and Gold (8-1-4, 6-0-2) secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Lee (4-6-3, 1-4-3) at Robert P. Longabaugh Field, with three different players finding the back of the net.
The match commenced with Mississippi College's
Cole Turner and Lee University's Paul Northcutt in goal. Mississippi College took an early lead with
Ben Britton scoring in the 4th minute. The Choctaws maintained offensive pressure, with Britton's subsequent shot in the 8th minute being saved by Northcutt. Lee's attempts to equalize included a shot by Farid Chouyouti in the 18th minute, which was saved by Turner. Ethan Stewart's efforts for Lee included a shot saved in the 27th minute and another off-target in the 42nd minute. The first half concluded with Mississippi College leading 1-0.
MC extended their lead in the 62nd minute when
Aimar Calomarde scored with an assist from
Russell Berko, making the score 2-0. Despite Lee's attempts to respond, including shots from Andreas Aspris and Stewart, The Blue and Gold's defense remained firm. The home team further cemented their victory with a penalty kick goal from
Sergio Garrido in the 84th minute, bringing the final score to 3-0. Northcutt made several key saves throughout the half but could not prevent the hosts from claiming a decisive win.
Turner recorded three saves and secured a shutout over 90 minutes for the Choctaws. Britton scored the game-winning goal and added two shots on target.
