BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi College's Catherine Wallace and Caleb Whipp have been recognized by the Gulf South Conference as Cross Country Freshmen of the Week following standout performances at the Watson Cross Country Classic held at Choctaw Trails.
Wallace, a freshman from Clinton, earned her second Freshman of the Week honor this season after placing 17th overall in a field of 168 runners. She completed the 6K course in 23:15.2 — the fourth-fastest time among all freshmen — to help lead the Choctaws to a team victory with 38 points. Wallace previously earned the weekly award on Oct. 8.
On the men's side, Whipp set a new personal record of 26:13.70 in the 8K, finishing 28th overall in a 214-runner field. The freshman's performance helped the Choctaws capture first place in the team standings with 63 points, marking one of the program's most complete efforts of the season.
Both Wallace and Whipp have been consistent contributors in their debut collegiate campaigns, helping solidify Mississippi College's reputation as one of the top programs in the Gulf South Conference heading into the championship stretch.
The Choctaws will return to action at the GSC Championships later this month as they aim to build on their strong performances from the Watson Classic.
