Streetman Era Begins with Statement Win Over No. 7 Augustana

BROUSSARD, La. – First-year head coach Leigh Streetman secured her first victory at the helm of Mississippi College softball in dramatic fashion, leading the No. 12 Lady Choctaws to a 2-1 win over No. 7 Augustana in the season opener on Friday at Broussard Sports Complex.

Mississippi College (1-0) used a decisive fourth inning to claim the lead, with Madelyn England delivering an RBI single to score Morgan Lavergne and tie the game. Moments later, Blakely Gill doubled to center field, bringing in Ashlyn Rodgers for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Camryn Bailey (1-0) was dominant in the circle for the Lady Choctaws, tossing a complete game with nine strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on five hits. Augustana (0-1) struck first in the second inning with an RBI double from Lander, but Bailey and the MC defense held the Vikings scoreless the rest of the way.

Mississippi College recorded eight hits in the contest, with Shelby Samples leading the offense with three hits and a stolen base. The Lady Choctaws also flashed the leather, turning a key double play to halt an Augustana rally.

The victory marks an impressive start for Streetman, who takes over a program coming off a historic 2024 season.

"I'm so proud of the way our team competed tonight," Streetman said. "To open the season against a Top 10 opponent and come out with a win shows the grit and determination of this group. Cam was phenomenal in the circle, and our hitters stepped up in key moments. This is just the beginning, and I'm excited for what's ahead."

Mississippi College will continue play in the Youngsville tournament on Saturday.
