Streetman Takes Helm of Mississippi College Softball

CLINTON, Miss. --- Leigh Streetman has been named as Mississippi College's sixth softball head coach, Mississippi College and Director of Athletics Kenny Bizot announced today (Sept. 11). Streetman joined the MC family in July 2017 as an assistant softball coach.

"We have the right person for this job already on our campus and I couldn't be more excited than to have Leigh take over our program," said Bizot. "Her work ethic and love for Mississippi College and the softball program are unmatched. We are thrilled about the next steps for our program."

As an assistant coach, Streetman helped lead Choctaw softball to its first NCAA South II Regional Championship this past season and a Super Regional appearance. During her tenure, the Blue and Gold posted a 218-107 record over seven seasons with five Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances, four NCAA Regional berths and a Super Regional appearance.

"I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to step into the role as head softball coach at Mississippi College," Streetman said. "It is a true honor to continue the championship and family culture that has been built here, and I am excited to embark on this new journey with an incredible group of ladies. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Coach Bizot, Coach (Susan) Musselwhite and Dr. Blake Thompson during this transition and for believing in me to lead this team. I truly believe the sky's the limit for this team and I cannot wait to get to work."

"A big thank you to Coach Brooke O'Hair for the invaluable mentorship she provided me and this program," added Streetman. "Lastly, I want to sincerely thank my parents and my sister for their continued support throughout my coaching career— I would not be where I am today without them."

The Choctaw pitching staff have racked up accolades in the circle under Streetman. During her time in Clinton, Streetman coached five all-conference pitchers, including 2019 GSC Pitcher of the Year and two-time all-region selection, Cori Cooper. Most recently, she helped guide Cam Bailey to first-team All-GSC accolades alongside fellow battery mate McCall Lee, who garnered all-conference honors and a Gold Glove from the league this season. It marked the third all-conference award for Lee.

Alongside Lee, who was a GSC Top Ten finalist this season, Streetman assisted Carly Crawford in two all-conference selections, helping the program to five all-conference catchers during Streetman's tenure.

Streetman was a four-year starting pitcher (2011-14) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she holds school career records for appearances (144), saves (13) and batting average against (.209), while also sharing the school record with 58 career victories. Her 2.18 career ERA ranks in the top five in school history.

The Hueytown, Ala. native also holds single-season records for ERA (1.34 in 2011) and saves (7 in 2011) and has the program's top two marks in batting average against (.190 in 2013, .192 in 2011).

Following her playing career, Streetman spent two seasons as a volunteer pitching coach, helping lead the Blazers to five straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.
