Choctaws Offensive Crescendo Echoes in Double Triumph Against OBU

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College's bats were ablaze, amassing a total of 31 runs on the day as the Choctaws (15-3) secured victories in both game one and two against Ouachita Baptist (3-16) at the MC Softball Complex.

In the opening frame, MC notched three runs on singles from Brookelyn Cannon, Jenny Griggers, and Camryn Bailey, setting a dynamic tone for the inning. In the circle, Bailey struck out seven of the first 14 batters to start the contest. The Choctaws' offense shifted into high gear in the third inning, igniting a scorching rally.

Griggers set the tone with a leadoff triple, followed by hits from Bailey, JaKayla Shankle, and Emily Rigney, catapulting the score to a commanding 9-0 lead and breaking the game wide open. The Choctaws extended their lead in the 4th inning with a home run from Bailey, ultimately concluding the game in the 5th due to a run rule, securing an impressive 11-0 victory.

Bailey's standout performance included eight strikeouts in the circle, while also driving in four runs with three hits, one of which was a homer. In the second game, the Choctaw batters came out swinging with remarkable precision, making it seem as though they were wielding airplane wings for bats.

Their offensive display kicked off in the first inning, tallying five runs on four hits. Jordan LaFosse initiated the spark with a double off the wall, followed by Cannon's fielder's choice, a single from Jordan Moore, and the highlight of the inning — Kamryn Eaton's inaugural home run of the year, a powerful shot clearing the center field wall.

After a dynamic five-run start in the opening inning, the Choctaws maintained their offensive dominance in the second frame. McCall Lee's double set the tone for additional hits, featuring a wall-bound double from Cannon and a strategically placed home run by Madison Sinclair. The team surged ahead, establishing a commanding 10-0 lead.

Elevating their performance beyond consecutive five-run innings, the Choctaws added an extra punch by scoring an impressive six runs in the inning. In the third inning, Ashley Lightcap set the tone with a powerful homer to center, followed by a wall-bound double from LaFosse and a well-executed single from Sinclair. The cumulative effect propelled them to a commanding 16-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Ouachita secured their first run of the night when Kennedy Wilkie reached base on an error. Despite adding three runs in the inning, they continued to trail 16-3. In the bottom frame, the Choctaws further solidified their lead by scoring an additional four runs, bringing the score to a commanding 20-3 advantage.

Hannah Tauzin's triple, Caylee Comer's single, and Lightcap's contributions played pivotal roles in securing these runs. The Choctaws ultimately clinched a decisive 20-4 victory over Ouachita Baptist. Winners of five in a row, MC improved to an impressive 15-3 record for the season, and a recent No. 10 ranking in the NFCA Coaches Poll. The Choctaws are set to return home this Friday and Saturday, hosting West Florida in an anticipated three-game series with first pitch on Friday set for 5 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
