LIVINGSTON, Ala. ---- Mississippi College claimed a nail-biting victory, edging out West Alabama four to three at the UWA Softball Complex on March 29th.
In the initial inning, West Alabama dominated both defensively and offensively. Madison Wright held the Choctaws hitless, while Taylor Clegg's double and Marissa Mitchell's homer put West Alabama ahead two to zero.
The Choctaws managed their first hit in the third inning, courtesy of Jenny Moore's single down the line.
Mississippi College mounted a remarkable comeback in the fourth inning, tying the game at three with five hits, including singles from McCall Lee and Brooklyn Cannon, and Ashley Lightcap's three-run homer to left field.
The tide turned in the sixth inning when Mississippi College seized their first lead of the game. Lightcap scored on a throwing error by the right fielder, securing the 4-3 victory over West Alabama in game one.
Lightcap led the charge with one hit, two runs, and three runs batted in. With the win, the Choctaws improved to a 25-5 season record. Game two and three are scheduled for March 30th at 1 and 3 PM, respectively, at the UWA Softball Complex.
