CLINTON, Miss. — The #24 Mississippi College men's tennis team claimed a decisive victory over #5 ranked West Florida, winning 5-2 in an exciting home match on Wednesday while the #21 women's team fell 4-3.
On the womens side, West Florida took an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches. Manuela Dejean and Carlota Verdu of West Florida secured the #1 doubles match 6-2 against Elyangelica Alas and Fernanda Cota.
In the #2 doubles match, Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva of West Florida defeated Gabrielle Geolier and Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez with a score of 6-3.
However, Emma Roberts and Maria Rodriguez fought back to win the #3 doubles match 6-3.
In singles play, West Florida continued to hold the advantage. Carlota Verdu won the #1 singles match against Elyangelica Alas, while Aline Midori Da Silva secured victory in the #2 singles match. Gabrielle Geolier won the #3 singles match in three sets.
West Florida ultimately sealed the victory with Nathalia Mossambani winning the #4 singles match. Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez claimed victory in the #5 singles match, and Anna Hudson won the #6 singles match.
On the men's side, MC dominated the doubles matches with Felipe Iser and Rafael Sabio winning 6-4 in the #1 doubles, while Alex Benichou Blanchard and Walker Ellis secured a 6-3 victory in the #2 doubles. Alvaro Saint Martin and Joe Jarvis wrapped up the doubles with a 6-3 win in the #3 match.
In singles play, MC continued their strong performance. Alex Benichou Blanchard won the #1 singles match 6-7, 6-2, 6-0, while Alvaro Saint Martin and Joe Jarvis also secured victories. Sergio Ramirez Ocana fought hard to win the #5 singles match.
With the win, MC improves to 7-0 overall on the season and 2-0 overall in GSC play. They return to action on Friday where they take on Ouachita Baptist at home beginning at 1 p.m.
