Choctaws Open Up 2023 Season With Win Over Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Mississippi College launched the 2023 season off with a 17-14 win over second-ranked NAIA opponent Keiser in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Thursday night.

MC set the tone early as Marcus Williams punched the ball into the endzone with a 7-yard run in the first quarter. Keiser responded just before halftime with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Veasley to Armani Norcius, evening the score.

A 58-yard punt return by Wendol Philord for Keiser in the third quarter gave the Seahawks a brief lead. However, the Choctaws responded shortly after with John Henry White 3-yard touchdown run, tying things up at 14-14.

Tied at 14-14 in the fourth, Ben Pledger nailed the go ahead 46-yard field goal, propelling MC to a 17-14 lead. The Choctaw defense held Keiser in check on the final drive of the contest, securing the 17-14 road win.

MC's ground game went for 199 yards accumulated across 50 attempts. The Choctaw defense was instrumental in limiting Keiser's offense to just 189 total yards. 

With the win, MC starts their campaign off 1-0.  They return to the field next weekend on the road at Midwestern State. Both teams will kickoff beginning at 7 pm CST in Wichita Falls, Texas.
