Lady Choctaws Hard Fought Match Versus #6 UWA Comes Up Shy in Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team put up a hard fought effort against the #6 West Alabama Lady Tigers in a tough match on Friday morning, but fell to the nationally ranked Lady Tigers by a final of 4-3.

In doubles play, the Choctaws fought hard, but the Tigers emerged victorious in courts one and two. Ely Alas and Fernanda Cota battled at No. 1 doubles but were unable to overcome Haina Franco and Irawan Deewajee from West Alabama, who won 6-2.

Gabrielle Geolier and Anna Valiaeva also put up a strong fight at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell to Yurie Takanishi and Emiri Takanishi 6-4.

Emma Roberts and Maria Rodriguez were leading their match at No. 3 doubles against Heden Ly and Hardija Vidnere from West Alabama, but the match was left unfinished.

Moving on to singles play, the Lady Choctaws gave it their all but were unable to come out on top against the Lady Tigers. Emma Roberts had a fantastic performance at No. 2 singles, triumphing over Yurie Takanishi in three sets, winning 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Gabrielle Geolier also delivered an impressive win at No. 4 singles, defeating Hardija Vidnere in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4.

Anna Valiaeva secured the final win for the Choctaws at No. 5 singles, overcoming Emiri Takanishi in two sets, winning 7-6, 6-3.

Despite the loss, the Choctaws can be proud of their successful season, concluding with a 15-5 overall record and a 7-3 record in GSC play. Recently, Fernanda Cota was named to the 1st Team All-GSC Team, and Gabrielle Geolier was named to the GSC 2nd Team, highlighting the skill and hard work of the #24 MC women's tennis team.
