ATLANTA, Ga. – Mississippi College's exceptional track and field team will showcase their athletic prowess at the Georgia Tech Invitational, a two-day event taking place from Friday, April 21 to Saturday, April 22. The competition will feature a lineup of top-tier talent from across the South, with the Choctaws looking to leave an indelible mark in this prestigious event.
Mississippi College will field an impressive roster of athletes on day one of the invitational. Standouts include Al Ferrill, who recently earned GSC Field Athlete of the Week honors, and will compete in the hammer throw and shot put events. Ferrill, a dominant force in the GSC, currently holds the school record in shot put and aims to improve upon his No. 2 Mississippi College all-time ranking in the Men's Hammer Throw.
The freshman sensation, James David Miller, will also compete alongside Ferrill, demonstrating the depth of talent within the Choctaw roster. Rashanna Thorne, another recent recepient of the GSC Field Athlete of the Week honors, will represent the Navy Blue and Gold in the Women's Hammer Throw and Shot Put, teaming up with school record holders Nicole Morris and Essence Tornabene.
Choctaw speedsters Shemar Patten and Kevin Turner will take the spotlight in the Men's 100m dash, while Kelechi Christian, a powerhouse in women's sprints who holds multiple school record holders, will lead a strong contingent in the Women's 100-meter dash alongside Alana Green and Ereyonna Gore. Mississippi College will also exhibit remarkable talent in distance events, with steeplechasers Bre Bell and Ava Dickerson, as well as Emily Berry, and Norma Guiterrez in the Women's 5,000-meter run, all slated to compete in their respective specialties. Bell and Dickerson are the top two athletes in Mississippi College Women's Track and Field history in the Women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Berry holds the school record in the Women's 3,000-meter run.
The Georgia Tech Invitational will culminate with a thrilling Men's 1500-meter run featuring the formidable quartet of Brock Kelly, Hollis Johnson, Christian Balcer, and Preston Speed. Leslie Baxter and Haley Hall will also compete in the Women's 1500-meter run. Johnson, Kelly, and Hall are all coming off wins at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet, and will look to build on their recent successes at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
With an extraordinary lineup of athletes, Mississippi College is primed to make a significant impact at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
