#19 Lady Choctaws Pick Up 30th Win, Eaton Ties Single Season Home Run Record

CLINTON, Miss. --- #19 Mississippi College picked up their 30th win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Spring Hill College by final scores of 6-1 and 8-0 non-conference doubleheader action.

In game one, MC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two run home run by McCall Lee before extending their lead to 3-0 on an RBI single by Shelby Samples, ending the first inning ahead by three runs.

In the fourth inning, Ashley Lightcap notched her first career home run for the Lady Choctaws, pushing MC to a 4-0 cushion after four complete.

Spring Hill earned one run back in the fifth on an RBI double, cutting the lead to 4-1. Yet, a Jenna Ergle two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning gave the Lady Choctaws two more insurance runs, on their way to winning by a final score of 6-1 in game one.

Camryn Bailey (19-3) picked up her 19th win of the season, going the complete 7.0 innings in the circle, while giving up four hits, one run, and striking out seven.

In game two, in similar fashion as game one, McCall Lee homered for the second time on the day with a two run shot that scored Brooke Fagan, pushing MC up 2-0 after one inning.

The reigning GSC Player of the Week, Kamryn Eaton, sent her single season tying school record 14th home run over the right field fence in the second inning, a solo HR, to put MC up 3-0.

Two more runs crossed the plate in the inning on singles by Alexis Laughlin and McCall Lee, as the Lady Choctaws extended their run total to five and a 5-0 lead over the Lady Badgers.

MC plated three more runs in the third inning, cruising their way to an 8-0 lead. Avery Barnett closed out the contest for the Lady Choctaws in the circle, going the full 5.0 innings, as MC completed the sweep with an 8-0 win.

Barnett (9-4) picked up her ninth win of the season after surrendering just two hits, no runs, and striking out five. MC had eight hits as a unit in game one with Ashley Lightcap leading the way with two hits at the plate.

In game two, MC picked up 13 hits as a team, with McCall Lee, Kamryn Eaton, and Alexis Laughlin each tallying two hits.

The Lady Choctaws continue to distance themselves from the previous school record of 41 home runs as a team in a single season, as Wednesday's five home run day put the team told to 63 on the year.

MC improved to 30-7 overall on the season, clinching their first 30 win season since the 2019 team. Due to inclement weather moving into the Clinton area over the weekend, this weekend's three game series, originally set for Saturday-Sunday, has moved up to a Friday-Saturday three game set versus Christian Brothers.

The Lady Choctaws and CBU will take the field on Friday for doubleheader action beginning at 4 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex, with game two to follow. Saturday's single game will take place at 1 p.m.
